Graphic file types

Font sizeHere i have researched into different file types and the definitions. I have looked into Adobe pro grammes and other well known file types.


Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor developed and marketed by Adobe Systems.The latest version, Illustrator CS4, is the fourteenth generation in the product line. Numerous new features include multiple artboards in a single document, a "blob brush" that is similar to the brush in Adobe Flash, and support for transparency in gradients among other features.

Adobe Photoshop, or simply Photoshop, is a graphics editing program developed and published by Adobe Systems. It is the current market leader for commercial bitmap and image manipulation software, and is the flagship product of Adobe Systems.


Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing (DTP) software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be used to create things such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines and books.

Adobe Flash (formerly Macromedia Flash) is a multimedia platform originally acquired by Macromedia and currently developed and distributed by Adobe Systems. Since its introduction in 1996, Flash has become a popular method for adding animation and interactivity to web pages. Flash is commonly used to create animation, advertisements, and various web page Flash components, to integrate video into web pages, and more recently, to develop rich Internet applications.


PSD- The .psd format is the Adobe Photoshop data format which can be read on any machine that has Adobe Photoshop installed. It is cross platform and can be used on both PCs and Macs. The PSD format provides extended support for layering, alpha channels, paths, and vectors.

JPEG (pronounced jay-peg) is a commonly used method of compressing photographic images.

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a bitmap image format for pictures with up to 256 distinct colours.

BMP (short for bitmap) is a graphic format used internally by the Microsoft Windows graphics subsystem, and used commonly as a simple graphics file format on that platform.

Short for Portable Document Format, a file format developed by Adobe Systems. PDF captures formatting information from a variety of desktop publishing applications, making it possible to send formatted documents and have them appear on the recipient's monitor or printer as they were intended.
